What can I use to boil small quantities of water easily without having to use a microwave or electric kettle?
I have heard of portable electric rods that can be submerged into water to boil; however, I can not find one on the internet or any local store. I plan on living in a dorm then coming fall and would like to find something that I can use to boil water other than a microwave.

Can you heat milk in a tea kettle?
I’m trying to make some hot chocolate, and the microwave doesn’t seem to be a very good way to heat up milk. I don’t have the money to go out and buy an espresso machine, so is it possible to heat up the milk in a tea kettle on the stove? What would be the best way to go about doing that?

can i cook brown rice using just boiling water from a kettle?
I eat brown rice regularly (it is the majority of what i eat on a dairly basis) and last month I moved to a university residence where stove tops are not available. All I own is an electric stainless steel water kettle (and there’s a microwave, but I don’t like using it..)
what are the guidelines to cooking brown rice using only the appliances I have? Best answers are those that avoid using microwave

Do you know the best brand of cordless electric kettle and where can I buy it?
I’m looking to replace a stainless steel one cordless kettle made by GE – it takes forever for it to boil!
It looks like a regular kettle, except it sits on a base that looks about like a trivet with an electric cord that plugs in. You leave it on your counter top, filled with water. Then when you are in need of hot water for soup, tea, cocoa, instant oatmeal, whatever, click it on and the water comes to boiling in a minute or two and automatically shuts off (if it’s a good one). Any recommendations?
