Tea kettle whistles when the heat, reaches the boiling poing of 100 degrees and the pressure of the heated water against the inside of the tea kettle turns to water vapor and forces some air out of the small opening (the whistle??)

as a supplement to foodguru, the pressure from the contained heated water exerts an amount of force . This force has only a small opening and "wants" to leave as quickly as possible. since the force is so hard (as atom and particles push against each other due to friction) sounds is released, making the tea kettle whistle
